Africa: West Africa Small Group Tours
Loose yourself in colourful markets, look up at a canopy of stars from the vast Sahara Desert, wander along sun drenched beaches and discover thousands of miles of coastline, jungle covered mountains and a place steeped in history. Here, it’s the people, music, history, cultural diversity and landscape that make West Africa so unique, and why it is a perfect destination for your next holiday.
What is a small group tour?
Our tours to West Africa are all small group tours, giving you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the culture and interact with local communities. We limit the group number to a maximum of 12 passengers, giving you a more intimate experience that ensures comfort and security.
A small group tour removes all the stress and hassle that comes with organising a trip on your own, and is a great way of truly enjoying your holiday to its full potential. West Africa can be a difficult place to navigate but with Kumuka, our experienced, knowledgeable guides and well-researched itineraries ensure you don’t miss out on all this unique place has to offer.
Transport on tour is in comfortable, air-conditioned mini-buses. Using smaller vehicles allows us to get to more remote areas, as well as limiting our impact on the environment. We support the local communities by staying in local campsites wherever possible, although we’ll sometimes bush camp also.
Where we go:
Kumuka’s West Africa tours focus on Ghana, Togo, Benin, Burkina Faso and Mali, each with something different to offer. In Ghana, listen as drummers manipulate the sound of their ‘talking drums’ to mimic the human voice in Ga. Walk the tropical beaches of the Atlantic and visit the historic slave castle at Cape Coast.
In Togo, experience Lomé (the capital), one of the most beautiful cities in West Africa, and learn more about the mysterious voodoo culture. At the geographical heart of West Africa lays Burkina Faso, a little known place but one full of friendly people, a wealth of interesting sights and a relaxed pace which is sure to charm.
Sitting on the western edge of Nigeria is Benin. Walk down the dusty streets to the palm fringed beaches in the place that was once one of the most powerful empires in Africa, known as the Dahomey Kingdom. Home to some of West Africa’s most interesting cultural sites, such as legendary Timbuktu, is Mali. Discover the fascinating Dogon people, with their complex cultural rituals and whose villages still cling to the edge of rocky cliffs along the great Niger river.
West Africa is a unique and remarkable travel destination - you are sure to have the experience of a lifetime.
Eco Tourism
Many villages in West Africa have embraced eco-tourism, and we support these projects wherever possible, and are proud of our commitment to sustainable tourism.
